If you are getting this email, it is because you are either a current group facilitator at the TG Center or you are a likely group facilitator. Please be at your training THIS SUNDAY between 1 and 3. Lilly will be doing the facilitator training and believe me – she is good!

If you are likely to find yourself facilitating a group, you need to undergo this training! This training will help facilitators better deal with group dynamics, conflict as well as overall group heath. All group facilitations who are having their groups at the TG Center need to undergo this training in order to continue meeting at the TG Center. 

PLEASE BE THERE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!

During the last Community Advisory Board (CAB) meeting, the HTGA representative noted that meetings are sometimes interrupted by noise from downstairs. To address this issue, French doors were installed in the main upstairs meeting room in order to reduce noise from downstairs interrupting the meetings upstairs:

An archive committee is forming to work with the TG Archive. If you would like to be a part of this committee, please sign up during one of the meetings at the TG Center. TFA is continuing to aggressively seek out and acquire items of historical significance to the transgender community. Recently, the TFA
Archive made the following acquisitions:

Acquired on 10/06/2008: March 8, 1953 copy of the American Weekly magazine. “How I Became A Woman” by Christine Jorgenson.

Acquired on 10/06/2008: July 16, 1970 autograph by Christine Jorgenson.

Acquired on 10/07/2008: October 1982 copy of Psychology Today magazine. “Transsexual Passages: The ordeal of a Brilliant Scholar”

Friday (9/26/2008): 

What: TG Buddhist Meditation Group 
When: 7 to 9 PM 
Cost: Free 
This is a traditional Theravada Buddhist meditation group for transgender individuals. While this 30 minute meditation is traditional, attendees are not required to participate in any of the traditional Theravada Buddhist practices or meditation positions. If you feel that you would like to participate in the traditional sitting positions, it is strongly suggested that attendees bring a zafu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zafu). 

Saturday (9/27/2008): 

What: Significant Others Support (SOS) 
When: 3 to 4 PM 
Cost: Free 
This meeting is specifically designed to meet the needs of the husbands, wives, boyfriends and girlfriends (ie “Significant Others” or “SO”) of transgender people. Additionally, this group is open to transgenders who want the perspective of a SO. 
 

What: Texas Association for Transsexual Support (TATS) 
When: 4 to 5 PM 
Cost: Free 
This meeting is specifically designed to meet the needs of transsexuals. This group requires that individuals go though a screening process prior to attending meetings. 

Monday (9/29/2008): 

What: TG Center Community Advisory Board (CAB) 
When: 6 to 7 PM 
Cost: Free 
This is a meeting of the Transgender Foundation of America’s (TFA) TG Center Community Advisory Board. This group advises the TFA Board of Directors on issues affecting the community and makes recommendations to address issues affecting the community and make recommendations concerning funding allocation.

The TATS meeting will take place from 4 to 5 PM and the STAG meeting will go from 5 to 6 PM.

The Center will be open to the public this Saturday from 3 PM until 7 PM.

Also, please note:

HTGA will move to the TG Center August 4th and the Thursday Social will move to the TG Center August 7th.

The Community Open House will take place on August 30th from 1PM until 9 PM.
