Transgender Foundation of America and Houston’s Transgender Day of Remembrance
Transgender Foundation of America (TFA) is the top donor in this year’s Houston’s Transgender Day of Remembrance set to be held on November 22, 2008. This year not only marks the 10 year anniversary of Transgender Day of Remembrance, it has become one of the deadliest years for the transgender community. Almost three times as many people will be remembered in this year’s event than last year. The event will be held at the Houston Holocaust Museum.
In a letter to the Houston Transgender Unity Committee, the Director of TFA, Cristan Williams wrote: "The Day of Remembrance is one of the most important events in the transgender community. The event is about coming together as a unified community to acknowledge the truth of our humanity."
The TG Day of Remembrance event begins at 6:30 with a wine and cheese reception and the remembrance ceremony begins at 8:00 PM. The event, which included museum tours, food and drinks is free to all who wish to stand with the Houston transgender community in remembering those whose life was cut short through the destructive power of hate.
